Greetings Parents, Guardians, and Families of Ranson Elementary,

I would like to welcome each of you to the 2023 – 2024 school year! I look forward to another exciting year together, as your principal. This year’s focus is making EVERY minute count, EVERY day, ALL day, through hard work, collaboration, problem-solving opportunities. In addition to being very passionate about education for all students no matter their ability, all of us at Ranson Elementary have high expectations for ourselves and students to assure the best education for your student.

I strongly believe that parents are the first teacher in every student’s life. It is because of that belief that we will continue to foster a strong home-and-school community partnership. In addition to a strong community partnership, together we will work to not only guarantee that all our students are challenged academically, but also have access to social and emotional supports, as necessary, so that both students and families feel supported, appreciated, and cared for.

I began my career as a 4th grade teacher, before moving on to teach 5th grade. I then became a Lead Teacher/Content Specialist before moving into administration at Driswood Elementary, serving as their first Assistant Principal. I became only the 4th Principal in the history of Ranson Elementary in 2020.

My academic background includes a Superintendent Certificate from Fairmont State University, Administrative/Supervision Certificate from WVU, Master of Education from WVU, and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Other than working alongside great educators, I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife, Vicky, who is a GIFTED teacher in Berkeley County, and our 2 daughters. Adelyn and Aubrey, both of whom will be in middle school this year. Together, we are either on the soccer field, in the gym for a volleyball game, or on the pool deck cheering on our girls on the weekends.

Additionally, together we will work to ensure that every student is appreciated and valued, feel connected, challenged by new learning, and are surrounded by champions to push them to achieve their goals.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or exciting news to share at 304-725-7310.

Sincerely,

Mr. Lance W. Astorino

Principal, Ranson Elementary
